1 Introduction
This report explores life expectancy across counties in the United States, using data collected from 2017-2020. In this report we will utilize data from the County Health Rankings to investigate the relationship between certain health factors and life expectancy in each US county. We aim to see how different variables factor into life expectancy through data analysis. We will also explore this in multiple regression models, where models will control for unexplained variability on the county, year, and state levels, with combinations of these levels as well. We found that when controlling on for unexplained variability on the state level, we can best explain what factors into life expectancy. Also, we found certain variables to extremely detrimental to life expectancy, in homicides and smoking tobacco. By applying the insights gained from our findings, we can hopefully explore ways to live a long and healthy life while avoiding factors that may negatively impact our life expectancy.
